Golf in Lanzarote & Fuerteventura
Lanzarote
Currently
the island's only 18 hole golf course is within a 7 minute drive of the
centre of Costa Teguise. The course comes as quite a surprise in the volcanic
surroundings of Lanzarote. Green fairways fringed by palm trees lead to
well manicured greens. Reminiscent of earlier style courses where comfort
and plenty of elbow room went hand in hand with good golf, this par 72
course is well compensated with strategic bunker placings around the greens.
A most unusual feature is the black volcanic sand in the bunkers –
so much easier to spot the ball!. Looking down the 18th fairway from the Clubhouse
terrace, the panoramic views across the island towards the Atlantic are
pleasant additions to the general charms and challenge of Lanzarote golf.

Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura
Golf Club at Caleta de Fuste is one of two courses currently in operation
on the island. This course, an eighteen hole par 70 with a total length of 6078
metres, covers the largest green area on Fuerteventura. Venue of the
Spanish Open in 2004, it is the first golf course to be opened on the
island. Offering superb views over the Atlantic and with the combination
of lakes and small streams that come into play on various holes, Fuerteventura
has become a much sought after golf destination for amateurs and professionals
alike. The bar and restaurant complete all the usual facilities associated
with a high quality course. In addition there is a swimming pool, gymnasium,
sauna and of course a good selection of quality villas with private pools
and various apartments surrounding the fairways.

In between golf, the nearby Antigua Commercial Centre is a meeting place
for shopping and leisure pursuits for the holidaymaker and residents alike
with its multi screen cinema complex and restaurants. The main beach of
Caleta de Fuste is two kilometres away and Corralejo, the island’s
main tourist capital, is within a half hour’s drive. The superb
beaches of Costa Calma, Playas de Sotavento de Jandia, in the south of
the island are just over an hours drive.
Golf Salinas de Antigua
Just down the road from Caleta de Fuste is the 18 hole Salinas de Antigua
par 70 course with a maximum distance of 5.409 metres for men and 4.652
metres for ladies, designed by twice world champion Manolo Piñeiro. The most advanced
technology in construction has been used to design the systems for
irrigation and drainage in order to optimise water consumption. The Salinas de
Antigua Golf Clubs' landscape is formed by hills and dunes which protect
it from the wind, there are also deserts areas and four lakes with a surface
area 21.450m2.

Golf Las Playitas
An alternative to Calate de Fuste is Golf Las Playitas some 4km from
Gran Tarajal on the south western coast. White houses nestling on
the hillside above the sea, a maze of alleyways and a small beach
promenade − all serve as an invitation to further explore the area. During
the afternoon you can watch the fisherman on the harbour wall.
The newly opened golf academy at Las Playitas is the
first big step in becoming a seriously recognised top golf resort. A large
two sided driving range and first class short game and putting facilities
combine with a beautifully conditioned 6 hole academy course which
makes Las Playitas a great destination to learn and enjoy golf. The team, headed
by fully qualified British PGA professional Murdo McCorquodale are on
hand to provide lessons and coach golfers of all levels in English,
Spanish or German. The 18 hole course is currently under
construction and is set amongst the rolling hillside leading down to the
bay at Las Playitas. Created by a Scottish design company Playitas golf
looks to be a real asset to the Island and combined with the Academy
course and state of art golf school where better to spend those winter
months. The undulating and very scenic par 70 course will be a tough
challenge especially on breezy days, however with the protection of the
surrounding hills, Playitas golfers should not suffer from any extreme
weather conditions.
Jandia Golf
Jandia Golf course is situated in the south of Fuerteventura and was the
third golf course opened on the Island in early 2007.
The golf course in Jandia covers a surface area of some 335,086 square
meters and is a par 72 nestled in a natural bowl in the mountains and
designed by Ron Kirby. Jandia Golf is considered to be a medium to
difficult course with its two small lakes, natural areas, Canary Island
palms and some of the most spectacular scenery. This will be a testing
golf course for both the experienced and the inexperienced golfer as it
is quite tight in places which will add to the enjoyment of the round.
It is close to the famous beaches of Jandia, Playa de Cofete and Playa
Sotovento which offer vast stretches of white sand and turquoise waters
of the Atlantic Ocean and only five kilometres from the fishing village
of Morro Jable. Fuerteventura Airport is only 85 kilometres from Jandia
Golf and with the new road section completed the journey time has been
reduced substantially. Puerto del Roasario the Capital of Fuerteventura
is approx 100 kilometres from the golf course and Costa Calma just 15
kilometres.
